Hi everyone,
I have an issue with my Shimano shifter (hydraulic brake). Either I received a lever that was already damaged, or I overtightened the bleed screw while bleeding – in any case, the thread inside the lever housing is now stripped. The screw no longer holds properly and can be pulled out easily.
Now I’m wondering: How critical is this? I’ve read that this screw is mainly important during the bleeding process and doesn’t have to withstand much pressure afterward. Is there a way to work around the stripped thread?
I found this Reddit post (Link to original post), where someone had a similar problem. One idea mentioned there was to use a small plastic piece as a plug to keep the screw in place. Has anyone tried this, and does it actually work?
Other options I’ve considered:
• Cutting a larger thread, but I’m not sure if there’s enough material left.
• Using a Helicoil insert, but that’s a bit complex.
• Fixing the screw with metal glue, though that would make it permanent.
Does anyone have a simple and practical solution to keep the screw in place? Or is the stripped thread not really an issue as long as the screw stays roughly in position?
Would appreciate any advice!
Thanks!

The (german) post i am referring to: https://www.reddit.com/r/Fahrrad/comments/18g4q2j/shimano_sti_entlüftungsschraube_gewinde_zerstört/
Use a Torx Screwdriver Bit to remove it, and buy a titanium replacement.
