How I got it

How it is now

It very rarely rains where I live and I don't usually ride when it does, plus I'm always wearing a backpack, so I need neither the fenders nor the rack. I also removed the lights (will be building my own) and some half-broken plastic trim around the frame.

Original weight 19Kg, now 16 and looking a lot cleaner. And with an 8-gear Nexus hub! Me happy!

It appears to be a "CTB" by "Rambler Bikes". There's a ripped sticker on the side with the .nl suffix of an otherwise unreadable URL and googling only returns a long-expired auction with "Holland" in the title, so I'm guessing it's some niche product for the Dutch market that somehow got into Spain where I live. That it has virtually no Internet presence is probably the most unusual thing about it.

Other than that, as you can see from the video, it also has roller brakes – which I didn't even know were a thing – back and front; I'd first thought the rear was a coaster brake, then discovered with some surprise it isn't backpedal-actuated. I googled and reddit says they're not good, but I gave them a whirl on the street and they grab a lot harder than I thought they would – on par with decent V-brakes, I'd say; the handles definitely feel spongier but the system seems eminently serviceable.

There's also a dynamo wheel, a sprung seat, a stem with a lever that makes it adjustable with no tools, and wheels with an unusual lacing pattern that I really like.

Oh, and the rear freehub doesn't click when it freewheels; apparently the combo hub+roller brake is available with a silent clutch, which mine obviously has. I'm quite happy about this as I've always found the usual clicking quite irritating, but wasn't aware an alternative existed.

The hub is a Shimano Nexus SG-8R31. The roller brakes are Shimano Nexave BR-IM50. The dynamo is a 2R30-E-H.

Impressively, all it needed was the chain adjusted – everything else seems to work perfectly (though I'll give the hub an ATF bath for good measure).

Not bad for €70, I'd say.

TL;DR: Citybike with lots of oddball componentry by a Dutch brand, model doesn't seem to exist on the Internet aside from a long-dead auction with no specs. Does anyone have any idea what this thing is?
