  1. Hey guys would be grateful for some help on this one.

Noticed some unpleasant grinding-ish sounds from the rear. Traced it to the rear cassette. I’ve taken a video (cicadas were going berserk so it doesn’t have the greatest audio) but it is visible that when the rear wheel is spinning, the cassette tries to move also and there is a grinding sound as well.

I am reasonably handy but never worked on a mountain bike before. It looks like I’ll need special tools even to get the cassette off to inspect the hub (which I don’t have). In typical fashion the LBS is booked out for months and I’d rather not wait if I can diagnose/fix this myself.

The bike is also reasonably new (just over 1yr) and gets ridden in mostly dry conditions.

  2. Freehub body issue, which is the interface between the body of your hub and the cassette. Video isn’t fully loading for me so it’s a bit grainy and I can’t tell the model of your rear hub, but that would be a good place to start with getting it apart.
