  1. When there is only one sprocket it should be changed with the chain.
    The one you have is clearly worn.

    You probably bought a 3/32” chain when you need a 1/8” chain.

    1/8” chains can fit 3/32” cogs but not vice versa

    Yes, your sprocket is very well beyond it’s life span.

  4. I measured the chain in two ways and got the same length with both:

    1. With the rear axle as far forward as possible: Adding the joining link, making the “join”, then adding two links.
    2. Measuring the old chain.

    The tyre rubs against the mudguard when the axle is as far back as possible, so I moved it to the centre of the dropouts, and it is here that the chain links are not matching up with the teeth, causing this skipping.

    The chain is 1/8″. The bike is a Dawes Kingpin with 20″ wheels.
