I just had open heart surgery and I’m looking for a project to do this winter spring. I’m thinking about getting my Surley steamroller repainted because it’s the ugliest color Brown of any bike ever. Then a little refresh on parts and such. I’ve never had a bike repainted before …..the original paint is in pretty decent shape. I’m wondering if I need to get it sandblasted first or if I can just go to an auto body shop and see if they’ll overcoat it. It’s just a steam roller so not some Italian classic

  1. Mmmm, Delta brakes! Delizioso!

Hope you get better quick! I recommend sanding before spray. Paint doesn’t need to be off completely, but grease/oil free and roughened.

If you have sacrificial parts, it makes masking unnecessary for the various openings and threadings. An old seatpost, BB, headset, bottle cage bolts. Never have these tightened all the way down or they’re harder to remove without damaging the paint.
    Or just tape.
