Piacenza in Emlia Romagna, Italy is often called a bike-friendly city, but how safe and functional is it for cyclists?
Bike lanes carved out of sidewalks, narrow paths, dangerous intersections, and the risk of dooring near parked cars. Pedestrians don’t fare much better.
How can we improve? Two approaches:
1️⃣ Soft: Remove the bike lane and create a shared 30 km/h zone.
2️⃣ Bold: Eliminate parking to build dedicated, safe bike lanes.
Cars take up too much urban space at the expense of pedestrians and cyclists. Unfortunately, the city has no plans for major changes.
