
I recently found these two threaded bosses below the chainstay near the bottom bracket on my 1995 Trek 950 frame. Thread seems to be M5.
I can’t really figure out the purpose of them. If they would be for a chainstay mounted U-brake, their position would be wrong. U-Brakes are mounted with one central whole, aren’t they? So what else could it be?

Another related question – say we removed our anti-chainsuck thingy, do we want to find shorter screws to put in here or is it ok to leave them open?
