11 speed chainring on 12 speed drivetrain

Hi,

I was initially planning to install a Rotor aero chainring on my bike, which is currently fitted with a 12sp Shimano Di2 drivetrain, when I noticed the Rotor website mentioning that it only works with 9, 10 and 11sp chains.

Does anybody have experience with these Rotor chainrings with a 12sp drivetrain? For what reasons may it, or may it not, work?
