I’m doubting on buying the Canyon Aeroad CF SLX 7 or 8 (both in Crystal White). Things I consider:
– Frame wise there are no differences AFAIK
– I don’t mind the weight savings (ride on flat terrain mostly anyways)
– Braking performance is important to me
– I can live without the extra shifter buttons that can for instance be used to switch screens on wahoo/garmin, though it’s a nice feature
– In terms of wheels, I think they only differ on the hubs (DT Swiss 350 vs 240), I currently have the 350 hubs and they are an already excellent pair of wheels

Which one would you pick? Do you think the benefits of Ultegra justify the price gap?

  1. The difference is the two buttons on the hoods and the weight. As you mentioned, you don’t pay attention to either, so the obvious choice is the version with the 105 and wheels on the 350 hubs.

Tbh I have no idea why this price gap is so big. I bought the version with the 105, and now I’m changing the crank to a shorter Dura-Ace, but only for aesthetic reasons. I’m currently selling the wheels. I suspect I’ll end up with a better setup than if I had gone for the Ultegra version, though that wasn’t really my strategy.
