Use electrical tape and wrap several times. The decorative finishing piece can be installed on top of if you like the look. Also make sure it’s free of grease/oils. Good luck!

always finish the wrap off with electric tape or fabric tape. only use the included finishing tape for aesthetic reasons.

Are you not using finishing tape?

I found that Cinelli finishing tape wasn’t the stickiest, especially on the one side I had to undo it and rewrap once. I ended up putting a tiny strip of regular electrical tape where it ended and that’s worked perfectly for the last 6 months. (wrap it so it finishes at the bottom and it’ll never be seen)

You need to tape the end of the wrap to the bar. The adhesive, if there is any, on the tape is not meant to secure it, it’s just there to make wrapping it easier. If the bar tape doesn’t come with strips of tape, you can just use electrical tape.

It seems to me that you have to start at the top and finish at the bottom, letting the sticky strip pass outside the handlebars to make it fit into the handlebars and then put the cap on. And the little piece that is sold with the handlebar tape goes which way but I don’t remember anymore sorry

Thanks all, using electrical tape now instead.

I’ve had good luck with electrical tape and agree that silicone wrap is better, but think the problem is that I’ve been wrapping the bars improperly. I saw on YT a technique where you start the wrap up on the flats, then follow down to the bar ends and hold in place with the plug. I haven’t tried this yet but will on next wrap.

A slick way to do it is to use some heat shrink tubing. Pull the shifters off, slide a length of heat shrink on each side, reinstall shifters. Wrap new bar tape, secure the ends with a single wrap of electrical tape, then cover that with the heat shrink. Extra steps but it’s a clean look.

Wrap from the top down, finish by pushing the last little bit in the handlebar, and and finish with a bar end plug.
Electric tape then finishing tape and don’t stretch the finishing tape. Like a little stretch is ok. But don’t pull it tight. It is not meant for that

Is that a Bianchi?

One wrap super 33 to hold tape. Then one wrap of self fusing silicone tape. Always looks clean.

Learned this from a bike wiz somewhere but either electric tape or the finishing tape, heat up a paper clip w a lighter and press it on the end part where it starts to lift up across it like two or three times. sometimes the finishing tape that comes w cheap tape it pretty trash so I’ve always done this on my wrap jobs and it works slick.

Standard Cinelli tape.
I wrap it tightly, stretching it slightly, then loosening a very small amount as I finish the loop.
Make it so your fingers follow the top part of the tape. Fingertip pressure will eventually get the adhesive to take fully.
It will come off occasionally. Just keep it clean, stretch it back on gently but firmly, and eventually it’ll take.

Electrical tape would help bit the whole bartape has been applied backwards.

14:30 in this video. I use an old wire coat hanger. Works great to prevent unwrapping.
