    Check that the hood isn’t interfering with anything on the shifter as well although that seems unlikely in your case

  2. I would stop trying to shift right away and move the hood fully back to see if the cable end hasn’t split and got jammed in the ratchet – it can be removed if so, it’s just a very long and patient job to do if the ratchet had already gone round and jammed the head of the cable in

    Check if the cable end inside the shifter isn’t stuck.
    I had a problem before on my ultegra, upon check the cable end wasn’t seated correctly inside so it got stuck

    Try holding the main lever still and then press the release lever. Use both hands. Might release.

    How did you clean it?

    I had a bike come into the shop just like this the other day and some Boeshield T9 solved the issue.

    I’ve sprayed WD-40 into shifter workings. If they are gummed up, the solvent will help free them up.
