I love these old safety bikes. I’d guess that’s a solid rubber tire with a wood rim. Pneumatic tires were a big innovation, probably the most important one in the scheme of things. I’m always surprised how long it took people to figure out suspension stems, although this looks a lot cooler.
Yeah instead of a spring that deforms when you do hit a bump, let’s have your entire wheel deforming constantly as it rolls. Totally won’t cost you an extra 200 watts at 10 mph.
