Hello all! I own one of these bikes. It was part of a promotion Cheetos did in the late 80’s. The story goes that 1000 were made, but more than half were damaged at sea and sit at the bottom of the ocean. Mine doesn’t look quite like this anymore – it’s got a bit of rust, a couple dents from moves, and the tires have all but fallen apart. But it has never been ridden, so with a bit of love, I think it could be restored to close to original glory.
However –
I am not a collector. I got the bike from my dad who passed away, and it’s sentimental to me. But I live in a tiny house and I have two kids and no room for this massive thing. So I think I want to restore it – and ride it 😬
Thoughts? Is this an abomination? Now that the bike is so old, I can’t imagine there are a ton left out there. Should it be preserved? Does anyone even care about a promotional bike like this? Am I giving the bike purpose by riding it?
Thanks!
