I am new to fat tire bikes. The sub has provided good background.
My current bike is a nice Trek DS.
Today, I was able to test a fuji wendigo (~10 years old) and loved the ride.
I want your suggestions on which bike below is a good balance of component quality / price, for my two uses cases.
In either case it's the same trail and is an old horse trail. Mostly smooth, not paved. there are some textured areas where a fat tire bike would ride very well. I rode about 1,200 miles last year. I expect i would keep the bike at least 5 years before i feel i have outgrown it. So starting with a bike i can 'grow into' need considered, too.
Use cases:
Winter: 3-4 months snow. groomed and ungroomed, whatever i prefer. ungroomed was more work but more 'floaty', less bouncing.
Year round: same trail. however, will likely also ride a parallel trail that is paved.
Bikes:
Kona Wo: https://www.konaworld.com/products/wo
Reid Ares: https://reidbikes.com/products/ares-midnight-blue
Reid Hercules: https://shop.reidbikes.com/products/hercules-dark-green
Your suggestion:
these are in price order but, again, do I need a Wo or is a Hercules' build good for both uses cases?
and, tbh, i never liked two-tone color schemes, which makes the Reid's a less desirable choice.

Check out Surly, Salsa, Otso, and Norco. Plenty of options besides these, but these brands all have affordable builds and often go on sale.
