This is on Facebook marketplace for $100, previously asking $200. I’m a 300+ pound guy who skates but I want to get into bmx for weight loss and just because it looks super rad. I don’t have a ton of cash to spend currently but if I like it enough I will totally go all out on a new bike. Obviously I don’t plan on doing anything crazy right now anyways. Would this be a decent bike for my needs, price considered?

Go for it. Just make sure measurements fit you. Also, be prepared to replace bearings, sprockets….a complete tune up with new parts.
No, that’s Hoffman’s entry level bike designed to be affordable. On top of that, it’s tiny. A 25 year old entry level bike designed for 13 year olds is not your best bet for getting into BMX.
Get something more recent

It would be a good collectors item for 100$ but its heavy as hell and the toptube is short, if i saw it at a bike shop used for 100, i would buy it and ride it occasionally at home for nostalgia reasons
it was essentially an sd4 sans frame standing platforms and geared more towards street/dirt than flat. very entry level, a few sizes and variations exist, george, george jr and george dirt merchant. if i recall the standard and dirt had 20″ top tubes so pretty small. these are cool and all but nothing overly sought after. usa built and ramp room condors, taj’s and big daddys are most desired. but if you venture into the taiwan hb years dirts/deebos D130s are pretty desired yet.
To hang in a bike shop or man cave sure.. I’ve seen worse decoration for 100$ that would be sweet.
For practical use.. not the move. Everybody pretty much nailed it.
Entry level model, but for the money and it’s chrome that’ll do as a collector, but you’d not want it as a modern bike to ride
This bike is for someone who collects bikes from this era or had one as a kid and wants it for nostalgia. Actually getting into riding BMX this is worse than the cheapest chromoly bike you can find from today’s bikes. The geometry will be all wrong for you especially the top tube length. I would buy it as a hoffman fan to cruise around on, but that’s it.
Buy a collective c1 bmx it is £200 and a good entry level bike. I’m a beginner and it’s a great bike for getting into bmx, not the highest quality parts but fine for a beginner like me.
