Last summer, I went on a cycling holiday in the Czech Republic, staying in Karlovy Vary and Pilsen. One town is beautiful and quite touristy, while the other is more modern yet still charming—and, of course, the birthplace of Pilsner beer. I went on five bike tours, each about 100 km long. I cycled along endless gravel roads, e.g. along the German-Czech border, and explored some national parks. One of the tours took me to Prague, partly via the Eurovelo 4.

I want to share some impressions with you and highlight how impressive the Czech cycling infrastructure is. Wherever I went, there were almost always dedicated bike paths. The network is extensive and well-developed. It’s also very easy to take your bike on the train; the rail system is vast, affordable, and the staff were always helpful.

I had delicious food, and in my opinion, Czech beer is the best in the world. I can definitely recommend this country for cycling tours. If you’d like to know more, I’ve also put together a little video (https://youtu.be/u2QDoncRG-8?si=GtxR5481g-HVgL2C).

  2. Nice, 2 years ago I did a long bikepacking journey with my Fargo, crossing Germany via the Rennsteig to Czechia. Via the Eger to Loket and Karlsbad as well. The sceneries and typical endless forest tracks are so nice. Quite challenging with a heavy loaded bike because it constantly goes up and down but definitely worth it. Planning to go again next year. Love the pivo tmave and knedlicky with Gulash. I think Belgian beer is still the best in the world but Czech ones are my silver medal.

  3. Love Prague! Heading back for the weekend from Stuttgart. Love to see more about your trip. I plan on doing one this summer. Great photos!
