For context, I saw this posted a while ago originally for $1800, he said its perfectly safe to ride, even with a big downtube crack? not only is he very vague about the damage he also stated that the previous owner was a mechanic and they told him it was safe, but I messaged him and then he said he was the owner?

Not worth it
There’s a reason they “worked” at a shop. No respectable shop would even work on that bike let alone ever recommend a dented maybe cracked lol frame.
Pass based on his response alone.

Cracked frame and dents… but a legitimate bike shop worked on it — yeah right, no worth while bike shop will touch that. First they do not want the liability of working on a frame that is going to fall apart and potentially cause a medical injury. Second, they don’t want their reputation smeared for working on bikes with failure points.
Nobody with any remote amount of bike knowledge is going to buy that hunk of shit. Sadly, it will probably go to a young person starting out in life with little money, trying to make an investment, not knowing any better.
The seller is a scumbag in my opinion. He knows what he’s doing, but choosing to dupe people anyway.

is the crack right above his thumb in that pic? I wouldn’t ride it. I certainly wouldn’t pay 1200 for it. Maybe 500 as a source of parts.

I remember looking on pink bike back in the day and seeing a Bronson with splintering carbon on the bottom bracket. Pretty sure the seller said they worked at a shop and the bike still road great. Wanted $3k for it… GTFO.
Even without the cracked frame the bike is worth $750 tops. With the cracked frame it’s a parts bike. $300
Why you putting the guy on blast, he seemed to be honest on the dent crack without hiding it. I have ridden frames in the same manner without issue, have had aluminum welded and for years zero issue but many will say a nogo because that is what they hear.
You ever see a slingshot, just a cable for a downtube. Many spots on bikes are like house walls, not load bearing.
All that said I wouldnt buy but also wouldnt try to blast a guy for upvotes.
