Hi and welcome to my world
Here at SMV Detailing we are constantly testing products to see if they will fit within our work and help achieve the results that our clients deserve
Here is a true world test of products that we either do use or have trialled to see if they may become a regular part of our services. Not ANOTHER ONE! I hear you scream, well yes! sorry, but yes ha ha. I like to do my own and am always sceptical of others as there are soooooo many that are paid/sponsored or affiliated. Do you ever get a true result? Are they real world or to benefit sales etc?
This video is not paid for or sponsored in any way, this is all my own doing (hence the production quality LOL)
We purchased a sheet of mild steel, degreased it and then cleaned with an IPA solution before dividing into sections ready for the product application, leaving the far right section bare as our control
We added a very scientific one squirt of each product, to each section, covering the other sections to avoid contamination. We then wiped it across that section and left in a damp shed for 2 months (a typical storage solution for many) then for the last 2 months we left the steel outside, and uncovered.
During application, all products were easy to use, however, if you do struggle with them, here is a top tip! Put the container in a cup or bowl of hot water for 10 minutes or so before applying, this will lower the viscosity and vastly improve application on a cold day (which feels like 10 1/2 months of the year currently)
DrDownpipe did appear to dry before the others, which remain tacky for quite some time in comparison
The damp shed passed fine for 2 months with very little, if any change to any of the sections other than the control section. The outside quickly showed varying results between DrDownpipes Anticorrosion Barrier and the other two, ACF-50 and XCP Clearcoat
Our findings
DrDownpipe unfortunately failed first out of the three, with XCP Clearcoat and ACF-50 both performing well with very similar results, although this time, ACF-50 just pipped the post. XCP have, however, since released an updated version of the Clearcoat which is improved and this, currently is our personal favourite
Which ever product you decide on, you will not be disappointed and all should last a salty winter here in the UK
I would recommend at least two treatments per year, depending on usage and would personally top up the vulnerable and high impact areas after every wash
We hope you found this interesting, we will upload some more in due course and if there’s anything you would like tested, please let us know
