Hi all!

I am looking for a bike which I can use for riding around town and on paved trails, maybe some gravel or fire roads.

I would prefer for it to have street tires (instead of knobby), but not the super narrow ones, and be rigid frame or with lockable front forks. I have a full suspension mountain bike for heavy off road use.

Some examples of how I might use it:

– Riding a mile or two to get coffee, boba, hit the store or to get fresh air
– Riding on a paved trail (ie near the waterfront) for a up to 5 miles or so (random guess)
– Maybe very rare rides up to 10 miles once in a great while.
– I live somewhere pretty car centric, so this is not for daily use
– Most likely will use it only once a week or less.

I already bought an REI CTY 1.1 during the labor day sale for 20% off the normal price (I paid $480 + tax), I have a year to return it. Link to bike: https://www.rei.com/product/197842/co-op-cycles-cty-11-bike

My thought was to buy this (or another similarly cheap bike) and if I use it a lot or more than expected I will upgrade to something better later. If I don’t use it much, then I will have a decent bike that was cheap to keep around. Worst case in each scenario is basically nothing since I have a year to use it and evaluate.

Are there other bikes I should consider at the price point of $4-600 before tax?
