  1. he didn't spell it the Dutch way, because we don't have an S in the name of our country. The problem in the USA regarding bicycles is the attitude of people in cars towards bicycles. In the Netherlands there aren't always bike-lanes available and you have to bike through all the other trafic, but that's not scary. You'll just have to mind the other trafic more.

  2. You're right, we complain quite a lot even though we are very well off. On the other hand: that's why we're doing well. We complain but are also happy to solve the problem. This ensures that we have most things in order. Without complaining no improvement!❤

  3. About the riding through red: when you're on a crossing of one way streets with traffic lights, it's often safest to cross when all the traffic from the side street has passed, before cars get green, so that you're off the crossing before cars can hit you.
Note: that only works for the typical American situation with one way streets and a traffic light. It may be against the rules, but it is what I saw people doing in NYC. (There are no separate cycling lights.)

  4. You're spot on. Riding a mountainbike whilst filming is very unstable. Plus you have hills in the US that are steeper than our sanddunes and the "mountains" in Limburg where Belgium-Luxembourgh-Germany-Netherlands meet.

  5. I would not ride a bike in the US, even in Boston. Not unless I am wearing protective gear like I work for the bomb-squad and mirrors on my handle-bars. And even then you'd have to pay me really well to go for a ride.

  6. 16:30 with brick you don't get potholes. And if a brick path gets uneven for whatever reason, you just take them out, flatten the sand underneath and lay them back. All you need is a bricklaying (rubber) hammer and a flat piece of wood. Done in 2 minutes.

  7. The weather is a harsh truth. We recently had overcast weather for so many days, it broke a record that stood since 1993. No sun for weeks.

  8. 22:06 tells you what time of year it was in The Netherlands when he filmed this ride. The Japanese Cherry is blossoming. So spring, somewhere between late March and early April.

  9. 13:10 in the Dutch footage he is also not following the road rules at this point, he is cycling in a pedestrian area where he is only allowed to walk with the bike next to him. 😂

  10. 04:52 Not really!
He wrote down Nederlands and that means Dutch, he should've written Nederland without the S!
So if you wanna be precise: the mainland European Dutch country is called Netherland and when you say the Netherlands, you talk about the Kingdom of the Netherlands and that includes the Caribbean Islands.
And back in the day, it also included Suriname and Indonesia! ✌🏼

  11. In General, the University towns (B+M+PhD) have better bike roads. Groningen is good, but Enschede got awarded twice in 2020 for being the best cycling Big town and for the cycling snelweg (Autobahn), the F35. It links a lot of towns around Enschede with a bicycle road, with the least possible obstructions like junctions or traffic 🚦

  12. 11:57 this is still car allowed, bu cyclists are priority, or equal to cars, same rights and rules for both. hit one, by default..the cardriver is in the wrong. Having to prove to insurance the cyclist was. So cardrivers are carefull. And yes, there are asshole cycists aswell..they aren't saints 😉

  13. 12:12 where he cycles not closing in on city centre, here cars aren't allowed, only emergency and delivery, the latter from 5 am to 12, and electric, that car is wrong, a German or Eastern Europe driver

  14. 15:14 Hooghoudt is a Jenever brand from Groningen city, still a family company, founded in the early 1800's, also making Beerenburg but in Groningen named Kalmoes, Fladderak a Groningen traditional very old liquor, Steern an old anise lemon liquor also mostly found in and around Groningen, and the usual liquors and distiles. Also making Czar Peter vodka, Apfelkorn ( apple flavoured jenever) lemonades and so on.

  15. 16:00 he did that the Dutch way… the Rangerover being sa dick for blocking him where he also has right of passage, haha, he went over the sidewalk and can be a dick cycling veryyyyy slooooow…that's what I would do hahaha!!!

  16. 17:03 whenever thre is an imperfection and cyclists fall or pedestrians trip, munancipality is liable to pay the repair costs of the cycle and the possible medical care aswell.. So they are impecable, smooth for bikes, and hell for cars when they speed to fast, because of annoying noise they make inside a car going above cycling speed. Designing the roads for the speeds you want to have people drive on them.
