First time road bike buyer for Oly triathlon – Paid $475. But one shifter (left / front gears) is not working. I did know this at time of purchase.
It has a carbon fork – 105s –
I took it to get inspected at REI – mechanic says it’s in great shape (outside the bad shifter)
Tires are good. frame great- I have the opportunity to return it based on the bad shifter so looking for advice.

since you can return it, can the place you purchased it from repair it for free?
Yeah see what’s available at a $600-$650 budget since you would have to spend that to repair. Also, that might be an indication that at this stage in the bike’s life other parts may be on the verge or close to future failures simply as a result of age regardless of the bikes overall condition. For those reasons I would get the refund if it is being offered. Kudos to the seller btw for even considering that.
Get a used brifter for ~100 and get a shop to install if you can’t yourself?
