Im thinking of upgrading my rear derailleur on my 2017/18 canyon neuron 7. and the current system is 2×10 which i think i want to keep since it fits my riding habits pretty well. The current rear derailleur is a Shimano Deore XT Shadow, M781 My dad bought a new trek roscoe 6 and i thought his rear clutch derailleur works awesome. So can i upgrade to a newer shimano deore m5120? Or another similar derailleur?

  1. You have a “direct mount” dropout which is not common and limits compatibility. Fortunately I believe that what you want to do would work, you just have to stick with a Shimano “direct mount” capable derailleur, which they dropped on MTB with the introduction of 12 speed. Or get a standard dropout, which you would need for more significant drivetrain changes.
