Started a new job a few miles from home, and picked this guy up today as my new commuter. Haven’t been on a bike much in the last decade but excited to get back into it.

Had a similar situation when I lived in London: Up to that point I hadn’t cycled for more than 20 years and I was too scared to ride in that city, mostly because in the UK they drive on the left and I was too worried I would do sth stupid coming from continental Europe.
Anyway, at some point, I moved to a place that was a long walk from the tube. I thought “maybe I should get a cheap bike to get to the station”.
Found a used hybrid on ebay, condition was great, paid for it and all was great. Only to realise that I had to pick it up from near Heathrow airport. That was 30 miles from where I lived and I had no car.
So the day after I found myself on the saddle after more than 2 decades, cycling all kinds of roads “on the wrong side”, having to get my bike on and off a train to save some miles and then doing the last 10 miles in the rain.
When I eventually got home I was exhausted and dripping wet. But had a huge smile on my face.
I thought “That was fun! Why not cycle to work tomorrow?”.
Ended up cycling everywhere after that. I even worked in a bike shop for a while and in 2019 I bikepacked a big chunk of Cambodia with a friend.
Wear a helmet, keep your eyes on the road and you will be fine 🙂
