Ordered the Grizl 7 Al in the cream color(Affogato) right before Christmas and it finally came yesterday, and I've already gotten tndirty πŸ˜†πŸ˜….

So I recently just got into bikes by accident borrowed my friends commuter bike for a video shoot and loved riding! up until this point I have had no prior knowledge about the sport.
Excited to work on my fitness and get some miles down.
If anyone could answer a few of these questions I'd be very grateful!

I got a size small, measured my inseam and worked out how high my seat should be, however my arms are locked out when riding and my hands in-between my thumb and index, started to hurt after a while when holding onto the hoods, is this normal? Is the angle of the bars or seat position wrong? Did I buy the wrong size? I'm 5'9 a little bit under 5'10 and my inseam is about 86cm.

Secondly how often should I be cleaning the bike/chain?

Will I ever get use to going down hills at rapid speeds? Or is this one of the things you just have or don't have? Because currently I feel like I'm constantly pressing the breaks out of fear

  1. Based on your size, you probably have the right size bike. I’m 173 cm tall with a 80 inseam (70 cm seat height), and i ride a small as well.

What you likely lack is core strength and flexibility. Grizl have a fairly aggressive geometry, so you probably need to lean your body forward more and get a soft bend in your elbows. I often ride mine with my forearms on top of the hoods to get aero during longer rides, and I’m a little bit smaller than you.

Don’t grip the hoods super hard, lean forward, and let your body adjust to what sounds like new stimulus. Don’t have to be tadej pogacar overnight. You’ll get more comfortable with the speed over time.

  2. i think bike cleaning is a highly debatable topic. i found this to be the perfect routine for me:
    – after wet/dirty rides: always clean the bike (especially when there is salt on the roads)
    – after dry rides you would not need to clean it is much
    – remember to re-wax the chain right after it is dry.
    – i use dynamic bike care’s speed potion wax. it doesn’t last as long as lube. but it’s so easy to clean the bike. and it stays clean.
    – to wash the wax off i use drivetrain detox.
    – works a treat
    – bike wash done after 10-15mins
