Hey mountain bikers,
I'm tryna buy a bike here so please help me out. I don't do "proper" mountain biking but I like to just cycle in general and I'm not feeling a road bike since I can't get off road on those at all. My budget is like $850 aud or less.
Before this my family had meridas and giants which I loved but I'm down for a change. Based on the options below which would you pick for better quality, better brand? Most importantly better resell value? Or if you have any other suggestions for me pls share that would be awesome.
Cheers.

probably the last one because it is the only one with a 1 by, i haven’t ever heard of the brand though if, i would probably choose the giant but that’s just because i’m biased, in this price point i’d recommend going used though you can get some great deals on marketplace or pink bike
don’t ever buy a bike counting on resale value, all those bikes are worth very little second hand. buy a bike you like and can afford and go ride it.
The Merida is the only one of those with hydraulic disc brakes, I would pick that one based on that factor.
If that’s your budget I’d look at gently used bikes in the same range. Like other commenter said, resell value on budget bikes is very low, which is bad if you buy new but great if you are willing to buy used. Most of these types of bikes are very rarely ridden and are effectively new, but you can probably score a bike in the 1000-1200 new price for 700 which will get you better components that will last a bit longer.
Buy used maybe?
Resale value is very low on shitty bikes.
Go to your local bike shop and we what they have, all those bikes are so similar the local support / maybe some free tune ups will be well worth it. And have them help you set it up.
I’m a fan of the old Rock Hopper
I started off on a merida big trail 400 and i found that merida is just really robust and good quality
Idk other ppls experiences but i trust merida quality – might not be the lightest or fastest but itll just work and be fun af
I started off on a Rockhopper a few years ago now. The one I had looks like it’s spec’d the same. Doing the currency conversion to USD, $476 seems more than fair for that bike. I paid $600 I think.
I pushed my Rockhopper hard and beat the hell out of it, not really knowing what I was riding wasn’t meant for it. It took it like a champ. I sold it for $375 when I upgraded.
