Horst Cohn, the son of Jewish parents, was born on 21 May 1931 in Berlin, then part of the Weimar Republic, which was the name given to the German government from 1918 – 1933. Horst’s father Max was the only Jewish master tailor in all of Germany and his mother Gertrud was a housewife.
In January 1933, when Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party came into power in Germany, Horst was not even 2 years old.
Hitler moved quickly to turn Germany into a one-party dictatorship and to organize the police power necessary to enforce Nazi policies. By the middle of 1933, the Nazi Party was the only political party, and nearly all organized opposition to the regime had been eliminated. Democracy was dead in Germany.

  1. These videos are very important. Many younger people didn't get a relevant education on this historical misery. My parents were boomers, my grandparents were defined by WW2, and I grew up with all the 70's and 80's documentaries reflecting on the post-propaganda reality of WW2. $0.02 from Tasmania.

  2. The Jews should of left Germany. They knew what was happening and they stayed. What Hilter did to these people was wrong yet that stayed. The United States was not the first in Germany it was Canada but the USA offered the scientists to come to the USA, why??? the German scientists were way ahead of all countries

  3. Looking at these newsreels of the mass rallies at the sports arena of hundreds of thousands of uniformed men that by 1945 they would all be dead Und Gotterramadung to the 1000 year reich .

  4. I wonder why Hitler hated the Jewish so much, especially being that he had a little bit of Jewish blood in him? (I think it was from his moms side but not sure).
Why were Jews singled out for hate and extermination the way they were, even above other groups the Nazis saw as inferior?

  5. The fact that many people today deny this part of the History and even promote Nazies and Hitler, is sickening! Just 80 years after, poor Jewish people have been hunted down once again, may God protect them from the evil of this world….

  6. Thank you World History for this episode on precious child Horst Cohn. What a dazzling smile he had. Why is life so cruel to some, while others are shielded from suffering? I will definitely watch part two.

  7. I doubt they were that bothered by the reactions of “the people of Berlin” seeing the mistreatment of Jews, but that the international press would not see it.

  8. this is ok.. but now you’re taking it out on the Palestinians! they took in jewish refugees after the war and now you place then under siege fir decades!
