Most cycling shoes are too narrow for most people, usually on a size C width last ( where most normal shoes are on a D )

Left is the Lake 169’s ( on their comfort plus last ) right are Bonts in the same size.

These fit more akin to the Lake 401’s.

First pair of bonts, and I have no idea why people are claiming these as wide shoes.

  2. Those look wide as heck on the right tbh. The ones on the left look crazy haha. You unfortunately have a very proportionately wide foot. SPD Crocs may be the thing you need.

Yes they are. Bont have the reputation of being wide because they offer both a wide and double wide fit. However, their non-wide or Asian fits are not particularly wide compared to other brands.

If you need a wide shoe, you really need to go up to the wide or double wide fit, especially with Bont. The tubbed design of the soul *requires* the wide versions for wide feet.

Many people with wide feet go from a normal fit shoe to a Bont thinking that will be enough, and it often makes their problems worse because of the Bont soul. Most cycling shoes have a flat soul, with a flexible upper that wraps around the foot. This design can accommodate a variety of foot widths.

Bont’s soles are different, in that the hard carbon sole wraps up around the base of the foot, and is not flexible. So, if the shoe is even a few mm too narrow, you’ll have issues. Because, instead of the sides of your feet butting up against a flexible upper, it buts up against the hard carbon sole. Not good.

For example, I can ride the Lake 332 in the normal width no problem. However, for the Bont Vaypor, I need to go up to the wide fit. On paper in the same size, the Vaypor, in a regular width, should be wider than the Lake. But, its not, because of the design, so, I size up to the wide.

Is this the Riot G? If you want to go with Bont, it looks like you’ll need to go up to the Vaypor to get into the wide or the double wide. Also, heat molding the shoes can help a lot with taking pressure off of your forefoot. If you think you’ve got the fit pretty close, heat molding them should widen the shoe just enough.

    I’m a Bont dealer.
