Looking at either the SL7 Comp or Expert as my first serious road bike – hadn’t previously considered in price range but heavily reduced.
Expert down from £7,500 to £5,000 and Comp down from £5,500 to £3,850.
The Expert has Ultegra Di2, which I hear is the superior group set. Also better wheels (I’m told the Comp would require an instant wheel set upgrade at £1,000ish anyway, and so the saving is gone instantly).
Do prefer the frame look of the Comp as the green oil of the Expert is very subtle.
What upgrades am I looking at realistically for the Comp, and at what cost? Or does it just make sense to pay more for the Expert and get the better wheels and the superior group set?

If you have the money get the one with better wheels.
I don’t think any wheelset is ‘immediate upgrade’ but I see your point of you’re going to want better wheels straight away. You could also take your time, save a little more and get the wheels at a later point.
I’m terms of the group. Some people like axs. Some people like di2. I honestly think it’s a wash at this price point. I prefer Shimano just because all my bikes are Shimano.
I honestly don’t think you can go wrong with either. What are you using it for? Racing? Fast group rides? Solo journeys?
