I literally almost did this the other day when I cut my housing like 2 inches too short. Ended up going to the lbs to get mo cable
You know what? I freakin love it
It’s a good solution if you like the exposed cable aesthetic. As for myself, I use frame bags and having that cable inside a jacket allows for bags without interfering with cable pull.
If you would, post a picture of the shifter cable mount on the downtube. 🙂
I wish all my old frames a full housing on the top tube. And it prevents bags from interfering with the exposed cable. But I wouldn’t hesitate to run this in a pinch if you didn’t have the full length of housing to run.
Any concerns with these ‘cable stops’ failing? I looked at the tack welds on my Miyata 610 and this looks like two potential points of failure. The tack welds are nice but they’re designed for cable routing, not brake cable hangers.

This is actually genius! I’ve always hated how the cable housing feels uncomfortable every time I rest my thigh on the top tube while waiting at a red light (or my ass when I’m chatting with someone while sitting on the top tube sideways).
