So some kid ran in front of me and I crashed into him (ouch) and that's what my bars look like now. Is this fixable or do I have to replace the bars? 🫠
Handlebars look fine, is there a bend or dent in them?
Shifter looks like it has been turned inwards. This is a simple fix you can do yourself. Look up how shifters attach to the handlebar, they attach with a small clip that can be taken on and off, tightened or loosened. Simply loosen the clip, reposition it, and tighten the clip back up. You may need to unwrap your handlebar tape to do this, but tape is reusable if it’s in decent condition.

Everyone will say unwarp bar tape, loosen bolt, straighten grip, torque nut back to spec and retape.
99/100 of those responders will then just tap it back into place without doing any of that if it’s their own bike.

It’s just the shifter. Likely no damage at all. Just pull it back in place.

Readjust the hoods. It’s not ruined- just lift the covers, adjust the position and tighten the bolts…
Team-_-dank on
Smack it back into place. Shouldn’t need to unwrap the bars or anything.

Honestly that brighter may just be rotated, the handlebar doesn’t really look damaged. Assuming everything still works mechanically, I would maybe take the wrap off that side, readjust, rewrap.

Rubber mallet or palm of hand. Slap that bastard into line

Roll up the rubber part (not the tape!) you’ll find a bolt you can unwind a little bit (just a smudge) with an allen Key. Turn the shifter back and tighten it again, roll down the rubber sleave again.

if you are on the road without tools, you could just tap it back to alignment.. when you get home, you can pull the sleeves up and check if its damage, slightly undo the bolt, ensure it is aligned properly and retighten the bolt.

How many speeds is your bike? I just bought a new set of 10 speed 2x Tiagra shifter hoods with the cables going down the handlebars instead of the cables coming out the tops going in toward the center. Turn a negative into a positive.

They’re made to bend, so they don’t crack. Just pull it straight.

Bend it like Beckham

Is fine, it happens. There is a bolt under the hood that releases the grip and allows to move shifters freely. Or you can just gently smash them back in place and tune them properly later.

Smash the other brifter on a tree or something so they match

Tap the left one in to match the right & revel in the improved ergonomics and aero gains.

Just bang it back into place or knock the other side to match, feels better that way many say!

Complete write off. Scrap the whole bike. It’s a lost cause. Send it to me and I’ll take care of it for you

Either:
1) strap it in a vice grip and straighten it
2) lay it on its side, place a car jack with a piece of wood to stretch it back.

Shifters are basically just attached to the bars with metal zip-ties. All you really need to do is lift the rubber hoods, and shimmy the shifter over.

Bend in the other one.

Pull it back. All good. Tighten the bolt.

It is a bit sad that you’re not curious on how stuff is built and immediately imagine this is broken. Shifters are not part of the bar they are tied to it and therefore can be pushed around. But also that if either the shifter or the bar broke, you can just take them off and replace the other part.
