I’m looking to get a quality bike but nothing enthusiast-level in cost, around $400-500 total to use for road biking, camping, maybe some easy park trails. But no serious mountain biking or super speedy road racing, think relaxation, fitness and getting around campsites.
I’m a novice biker and generally ignorant but learning.
This Kona Safariland looks like a good fit for me with the relatively relaxed posture and the integrated cargo rack. I guess they partnered with Safariland to make a bike for police and it looks like Kona later spun that off into their own Kona Shield Patrol bike. Both the Shield and the Safariland used to cost about $1,600 new but that was back around 2012 from what I can gather online.
But is it dumb to buy an aluminum bike that’s probably about a decade old that was used for a police or security guard fleet?
Doesn’t the aluminum wear/fatigue from so much use or is that overexaggerated?
Any thoughts about the value of this older expensive bike vs a newer cheaper bike like the Ozark Trail G.2 Explorer?
