That’s a replace or risk failure. It’ll be fine until you stand on the pedals and it breaks and you tip over and capsize into the ground. Not recommended.

  2. Take that outer link out and replace it with a quick link. If you try to bend it back in place it will just break next time you ride.

  3. Replace the chain. Once this happens, you will break the chain, probably under heavy load like acceleration or climbing. Make sure you haven’t worn out any other parts of your drivetrain

Looks like it was installed incorrectly.

If the chain is relatively new, replace that damaged link with a quick link. If it is older, get a whole new chain and be sure to install it with either a quick link or with the special ‘joining pin’ (Shimano).

Replace the chain is the recommended approach.

You can press it together in a vice. This requires that you have good judgement and inspect the repair to see that it looks good. Do not risk it if you feel uncertain since you run the risk of the link failing and the chain snapping.

  6. I’ve had this issue before in which I myself damaged the chain, please replace it for your own safety. My chain snapped in a busy road and it was not a fun way trying to find a way home. Fixing it though I wouldn’t wanna try, chains are cheap and for the price of yourself, just replace it.

  7. my brand new chain got stuck on a bend link.. deffenetly something to fix, I got a quick link in there it works no problems,

Get a new chain. If your chain is having a link failure like this it’s likely going to happen elsewhere on the chain soon as well. Check the chain for wear and if it’s significantly worn above the replacement indicator you may need a new cassette and possibly chain ring

You can fix it but I would just put on a new chain. If you replace the link, there could be other links that may need replacing soon. No worry and guess work with a new chain.

You could fix it but you need to ask how this happened. If this chain is getting worn, you likely have less visible damage in other areas. Chains are cheap.

  11. So I’m VERY new to biking after a long time, but given the outward bulges on the narrow links it looks like you have an indexed crank that has been running a long time in the wrong position.
