I built a hanging bicycle rack a few weeks ago. I wanted to hang them by their wheels and not harm the frames on the carbon bikes or anything. Didn't use any plans, just sketched it out and did the damn thing. Had to add a cable and turnbuckle in the middle so support it a bit but it was holding them before that, it was more for the piece of mind. Only tools I used were a chop saw, drill with bit set, and some clamps.

What do you guys think I could change for round 2?

Why not hang from a hook at the top of the front wheel? That way you don’t get the awkward bar turn and bike tipping, plus it’s much smaller when the bike isn’t in it

  2. I like that you designed something new and novel but this seems like overkill.

It’s not likely that you are going to cause any damage but you are putting a lateral load on the wheels. Why not just hang them from hooks? Then the force is in a direction the wheels are designed for and hangs neatly.
