Got out and did my first properly cold ride, 12 degrees F. Used my old snowmobile bibs / coat / gloves, some 400g thermal boots I recently picked up and a Carhaart balaclava.
Overall those layers were about perfect for the temps but I severely underestimated just how much more work it would be to ride with all that gear on. This 20 mile round trip absolutely wiped me. For reference I cycled just shy of 2500 miles in 2024, did 3 100+ mile rides, one as long as 127 miles. Did several 36+ mile rides on the fat tire, albeit I haven’t been nearly as active the last couple months.
What’s your experience been with cold weather riding gear?

Quality fat bike definitely makes winter livable. The happy picture is the best.
