Discover the Stunning Stwlan Dam Climb | Llyn Stwlan, Snowdonia (Eryri), Wales
Welcome to one of the best road cycling climbs in the UK! Located in the heart of Snowdonia (Eryri), near Blaenau Ffestiniog and Tanygrisiau, the Stwlan Dam (or Llyn Stwlan in Welsh) is a must-ride for any passionate cyclist. This hidden gem may not be widely known to the broader cycling audience, but among the climbing community, it’s legendary. If you know, you know!
As part of Simon Warren’s iconic Cycling Climbs of Wales from his famous 100 Climbs series, this traffic-free road boasts 12 unforgettable switchbacks, breathtaking scenery, and a challenge that every road cyclist dreams of conquering.
In this video, I tackle the climb with all my data (heart rate, power, cadence, and gradient) overlaid on screen to show just how tough – and rewarding – it is. Filmed with a 360 camera, you’ll see unique angles and perspectives of the climb like never before.
And don’t miss the thrilling descent as I race back down to catch my train home. Will I make it, or will I face a three-hour wait? This video blends incredible cycling with a vlog-style adventure.

My heart sank for you missing the train, you could've spent longer on the dam if you'd known 🙂↕️
That's a beautiful climb and scenery to die for, love watching your videos, especially the North Wales ones, makes me realise how lucky I am to live in God's Country, whatever the weather its simply stunning.
Great route and views. Your adventures are inspiring, but a schoolboy error not having the route to the station already plotted saving valuable time!
It's lovely isn't it. I had an excellent day in the summer setting out from Pentrefoelas, through Ysbty Ifan, then up the very nice road over the Migneint to Blaenau Ffestiniog. Up and down the Stwlan, and back the same way which I'd not done before and which was surprisingly 'climby' . Chapeau to you for getting all of those done in one day. I'm lucky enough to be local and the area is stuffed with excellent climbs, tarmac and gravel
