  1. The rear direct mount brakes under the BB on these bikes are terrible. But an otherwise lovely bike.

  2. It’s still lust worthy and still a great bike. Don’t let the hyperactive cycle industry that desperately shoves out useless micro-iterations of new bike design each year convince you that a 10 or 20 year old bike is other than excellent. Of all of the bikes I own, my favorite that feels the best is my 2002 Trek 5500 that I bought new. The one Lance won a couple of Tours on. It’s no less world class now than it was 22 years ago. Upgraded to wireless shifting a while ago, been through a few saddles. Still rocking the same Bontrager aluminum wheels that feel far better than any carbon wheels, rim brakes that are not as good as disc but they still stop me. The frame design, carbon layout techniques, OCLV etc that Lance developed with Trek are now industry standard.
