That’s the same one I use on my road bike. If it fits I’m sure it’ll “work”, although idk if I trust the expansion plug vs a star nut for mtb. I think they’re usually used for carbon steerer tubes as you can’t set a star nut in a carbon tube. Make sure you use carbon grip paste/grease if you do install it so it doesn’t slide out.

As long as it grabs your steerer tube and tightens up the headset you’re good to go. Once the stem is tightened, this plug/cap isn’t load bearing.

Works fine. I used a similar plug on a previous build and it worked without issue for years.
