New to winter riding and decided to test the water by purchasing a Northrock XC00 from market place.
Actually, I bought two from the same owner. Previous owner never did ride them. Stored inside and in perfect condition. The owner purchased them in 2018 and the couple never rode them.
I just bought these tonight, so I haven’t rode it yet. Second Northrock is in the car.
I did watch many videos on this model, I understand all the compromises compared to name brand, higher priced bikes.
What got me here-
Last week, I tried taking my new to me Haro Flightline for ride on the snow cover trails. Local bike shop, owners retiring had a 60% off sale of all bikes and the Haro was of the only bikes left.
The Haro is an upgrade from my old school, hardtail Trek 3900.
The Haro worked ok with the 26×2.20 tires in the light snow.
There was only a few inches of packed snow on the flat trail.
Rode for 22 mile round trip Cuyahoga valley National park in Ohio. Welcome center to Peninsula.
I rode with a friend that had a Surly Pugsly. That bike looked fun to ride.
So, research fat tire bikes, there are the brand name, heavy hitters like the Pugsly , Farley.
At the price point for the bigger brand names, I wasn’t sure I wanted to make a large purchase on bike that I might not always ride.
Planing on riding the Northrock this weekend in northeast Ohio.
I wasn’t sure if my Kuat NV rack had the rear tire strap long enough to handle a fat bike tire.
The original tire strap is not long enough for a fat tire bike.
As a result, I used tie wraps to secure the rear tire for the drive home.
Kuat does offer a phat bike kit for the current NV2.0.
I emailed Kuat and asked if this kit would work on the original NV rack and what that part number would be.
Kuat replied if I provided my address, they would just send it to me.
How awesome for Kuat to do that!!
Happy with my Kuat rack and awesome company.

Northrock actually got me into winter riding. The unfortunate thing is I’m 6.1 and these bikes only come in one size fits all M-L frame . I upgraded the bars , a stem extension to give me a little more room. It was ok for a while and I enjoyed riding the bike but recently upgraded to another fatbike that has frame that fits me but I just couldn’t get comfortable on the northrock.
