  1. Quite brave to go biking on ice. I thought it's still risky since the big layer of snow prevents the ice to freeze. On the other hand in your clip there wasn't that much snow.

  2. I hate to be the boring guy but it is extremely stupid to go on the ice without telling someone, alone, without ice spikes and without knowing the exact thickness of ice. Multiple people fell through the ice less than a km from where you were. The emergency services were rescuing people like crazy. The year 2020 was a record year in drownings and especially drownings falling through ice.

  3. Haha, quite a large percentage of Finnish households must have exactly the same kind of pot (design by Timo Sarpaneva 1960), because those have been manufactured for over 60 years, and they are virtually indestructible. The red enamel version I remember from my early childhood in 1970's is still in regular use.

Like Hippinaama wrote, the ice is certainly not very thick. So, you better stay in areas where other people have already been walking.

And always keep the ice spikes with you (hanging on your neck, not in a pocket or backpack), and a set of dry clothes in a dry bag in the backpack.
Official skiing/skating routes are another thing. They use heavy machines to maintain the routes, so they regularly measure the ice thickness. Though I would still keep the ice spikes with me. When in the icy water, it is a matter of seconds, and if you manage to get off the water back on the ice, it is a matter of minutes until the hypothermia gets too severe.

  4. It’s been steadily cold here in VA for a while, though certainly not that cold! I just wish we had some snow on the ground. You are inspiring me to attempt a freezer deep clean though 😹

  5. Thanks for posting both temperature readings in C/F
I'm located in the United States.
I rode my bike in 34F degrees before and people thought I was crazy, the key was to bundle up, get plenty of sleep and eat well to have the energy.
    Have a good day ☕😀

  6. V.niiice. You must have magic tyres…what tyres do you need for Finnish winter btw? I cycled through the bleak wet winter in uk and came off three times… Is it common to cycle in Finland in winter?
