In August this year I headed to the French Alps to ride the iconic Haute Route.
Haute Route is a legendary 7 day stage race for amateur cyclists and this years route took us from Megeve to Nice following a gruelling route through the Alps, riding over 700km and climbing a mind blowing 20,000 meters.
This video is part two following of my epic journey, ticking off a raft of bucket list climbs, the highs and the lows, as I make my way towards the end goal and the finish line in Nice.
The incredible memories from this event will stay with me forever and it’s awesome to be able to to share it with you!

Great end to the story and be proud of that placing, as you said you had to push beyond to get there, fantastic shots and footage again
Totally amazing Dave, not really sure what else to say to be honest. I've really enjoyed not only this mini series, but everything you have shared with us since your first video – I have been here watching since the very start and its been absolutely incredible to follow along with what you are doing. I don't say this lightly (and at the danger of sounding a bit gushy), you've been such an inspiration to me and I feel like finding you has had a profound effect on my cycling journey. Congratulations on getting your life back on track mate, can't wait to see what 2025 brings.
Great videos pal, well done
The series was definitely worth the wait Dave, absolute top quality content. You managed to capture the feel of the event perfectly (and my legs giving way in nice with spectacular fashion)🤣
Great video production. BTW, what filming technology did you use.
Great to see Dave and congrats on the result. Makes me relive my own experience in the Haute Route Alps of 2024. Totally agree that it is a bucketlist event. Good luck in 2025!
Brilliant, what an effort well done. Happy new year!
Amazing video, man
Best videos yet Dave 💪 strong riding. Apologies if you mentioned it, but what watt per kg do you think is needed to be in the top 50? Signed up for 2025 😉
OMG, such a great place to cycle. Thanks for sharing Dave.
Thats a great series of videos. Tough race that good work. 👍
Great ride Dave. At the age of 60 I did the Haute Route Alps in 2014 and I recognized several of the cols we rode back then. We did the same day three route that you rode but the weather was horrendous with low temps and solid rain all day. I think we lost 40 riders that day. These events are definitely memory generators for a lifetime. Thanks for all your hard work creating the videos and congratulations on a solid effort
Awesome videos to watch Dave. Strong riding. Which groupset did you ride and was it enough?
Brilliant Dave, unbelievable effort and two great videos to document it.
Great to see the tagline back “mammal on a mission” 😅
Great part 2 – thanks for the time and effort to edit.
Congratulations on riding so well.
I think a lot of people are put off by the Lauteret climb as its pretty much all on that main road to Briancon with the tunnels, but i liked it when i did it and if you keep your eyes peeled it has some incredible climbs off it aswell – Les Deux Alp / Sarrenne / Galibier.
I have not been out towards – Granon, Vars, Bonnette way yet. Your video makes it look utterly amazing.
I think your context point about the pro's is huge. The gulf between them and us mere mortals is just enormous.
Pogi's Z2 is approx 320w and he weighs around 65kg so he is doing 4.9wkg – always a good challenge to see how long you can hold 4.9wkg for.
Chapeau Dave 👏🏻👏🏻. What a way to sign off 2024. Definitely saved the best until the end. Must have taken hours and hours to produce these two videos. Really top notch. Your cycling isn’t the only thing to improve on this journey. Your vlogs have gone from strength to strength. Look forward to hearing what you’ll be tackling in 2025.
Outstanding effort buddy!! Brilliant video
Absolutely epic Dave 😎 👌 all best in 2025 loving the content bud
I just knew it was gonna be an epic vid from the start.
"400 watts, what the fuck?"
👏👏👏
really great video!
EPIC Dave. Enjoyed these m8 congrats that’s a massive achievement to be proud of for life
Awesome series see you😊 in 2025
HNY Dave all best for 2025
Brilliant, best YT watch over the festive break 👍
great achievement Dave. you should look at the tour transalp, it's basicly the same format (7 mountain stages although no time trail) and a lot cheaper then the hout route, the organisation of the transalp is on the same level as the haute route.
greatings from belgium
Well done again Dave what an achievement to add to your Palmares. I go to France every year on my motorbike but even now at the age of 74 you have got me thinking it might be time to try struggling up those mountains again ! Ted
Awesome video dude – be great to hear more about your nutrition / fueling for this event!
Another great video, Dave and an achievement that you should be proud of. The Insta 360 certainly earned its money! Did you manage to get a message after each day?
Well worth the wait, cracking videos, bucket list event ticked off, what an achievement. Chapeau
