2024 is history, so time for some reflection. Although I‘m a roadie, nowadays with less time for riding I do much of my base training on my commutes. So in 2024 I put about 5k kms on this old faithful cheap steel horse.
It‘s a very basic 80s lugged steel frame, weighs a ton. It‘s a touring frame, so it has 135 mm rear spacing and fits 35 mm tires and fenders below the original Weinman centerpulls. I removed the original Shimano Positron (yikes!) and put new cheap SunRace gearing on it, the most basic derailleur and friction shifters. With a 7 speed Shimano cassette, works like a charm! I built the wheels myself with solid modern 36 H touring rims. Much of the rest (cranks, stem, bars, seatpost) is steel. This bike is bulletproof. Altogether, it cost me about 250 EUR, most of which went into the tires, saddle, and basket.
The bike weighs a ton but it doesn‘t matter, it‘s smooooth and fun racking up the miles on it has done much good for my roadie form.

Great execution, in both form and function.
You could treat yourself and the bike’s drivetrain to lower coverage on the front mudguard, a long mud flap would be cheapest way.
everything looks great here:)… the bike bump on the seat tube and the dynamo attachment on the fork… so nice!
