I’m trying to remove the cassette my son’s 24” Giant xtc mtb came with. I tried my usual cassette lockring tool (https://www.parktool.com/en-int/product/cassette-lockring-tool-fr-5-2 ) and chain whip, but couldn’t get it off.
I noticed it has what appears to be a strange lockring around the outside. The only thing I can see that’s similar to it is lockrings on ebike cranks: https://www.parktool.com/en-us/product/lockring-tool-bosch-gen-2-lrt-1
Hoping someone can help, I’m at a loss, cheers

[this is a freewheel, not a cassette](https://www.parktool.com/en-int/product/freewheel-remover-fr-1-3)
This looks similar, but hoping to find a non destructive way to remove it: https://www.bikeforums.net/bicycle-mechanics/1186160-freewheel-cluster-lock-ring.html
It is a freewheel. The removal tool fits into the space surrounding the axle.
Freewheel.
7 speed is retro 😆. You need a chain whip and a spanner wrench (I think that’s what it’s called). Use the chain whip to keep the cassette from turning and the spanner wrench to unscrew the bolt holding the cassette on. Or just take it to your local bicycle shop.
