Got this old trek about a decade ago for college commuting, from the original owner (a professional bike mechanic who was responsible for the beautiful “we have 1x at home” drivetrain).

Threw on a threadless stem adapter and some 31.8 riser bars off my mountain bike, then proceeded to neglect it for a few thousand miles and 7 years while I got my 4 year degree.

Just did a mild refit with Amazon knock-off corner bars, an Amazon knock-off brooks saddle, Billy bonkers, and some trail one flats.

Had an absolute blast on breaking it in on some rough roads and gravel trails!

  1. I keep seeing people out these bars with the drop part very parallel with the ground, but it always seems like it would be more comfortable a bit more angled. It always looks like having them set up as pictured would be uncomfortable on the wrists in a pretty short time.

If you don’t mind me asking, why go for a stem with that angle and then bring the cockpit back down with the bars?

I imagine that saddle will have a bit of a break in period, but I’d love to know the ID, & what you thought of it.
