I ended up paying $300 for a Nashbar 105 cyclocross. The owner said he got it in 2022 and only road it indoors on a trainer off and on for about a year. I don’t know much about bikes, but it seemed like a solid bike that would fit my use case of commuting and occasionally recreational riding. I was in a bit of a rush and it was dark out, so I didn’t realize how bad the rust was until I started looking at the bike when I got home. Not sure if the previous owner’s sweat caused the rust over time or if it’s from where he stored it (he mentioned something about a vacation home near a bay).
I’m okay with a little project to clean it up, especially since it would help me learn the mechanics of the bike, but is the rust/corrosion going to be too much to handle? I’m worried I was a little eager in purchasing it.

Put some lube on the chain and it should be fine. When you put it on let it soak in for 20 minutes before wiping off the excess. As long as the seat post isn’t stuck you probably are good to go.
Looks like a fine bike. I would start by checking the chain for wear/growth.
