Hi all, still looking for a first road bike and stumbled on this one. The listing says he thinks it's 2016, but I think it might be closer to about 2010.
It's only $175 so I feel like that's a great deal if everything works. Especially compared to everything else I'm seeing in the area. Would be way under budget even if I took it in to get serviced.
Going to look at it later today and most likely get it. But wanted to see if you guys had any opinions on it first?

$100-150. It’s real old, but fine for a beginner if well maintained.
If it was pristine I’d happily pay $200 but it looks a lil beat up.
Test if shifting works well, wheels are mostly true, and all gears shift.
If you need to replace tires or other things it’ll quickly add to the cost.
That’s a pretty tight cluster in the back, although it is paired with a 34 tooth chainwheel upfront. Still, it might be hard for beginners to tackle hills with that setup.
Great deal!
Price is fine for what you’re getting. I would even look on EBay or check your local Craig’s List for a matching front Spinergy wheel. I have a few sets and those things fly even for old aero tech. They look better on older rigs as well rather than trying to toss them on a newer machine.
Looks like a pretty good deal
Frame might be 2016 but the mismatch of parts is all over the place.. are the front shifters Sora 3500? That would place the bike as 2013 or newer, if original to the bike. 2016 is when the newer Sora was introduced that got away from exposed cable/housing. If the front shifters aren’t Sora, then it’s older still.
Worth $175? If everything is in good working order and nothing needs replaced? Then sure, worth it if it fits and suits your cycling needs.
We gonna talk about how that rear wheel could explode at any moment? 20+ year old spinergy rear wheel would scare the shit out me
Do it. It’s a great entry level bike. Plenty of cheap/used parts to upgrade bit by bit as you get used to it. You can definitely get a few years out of it and experiment with cockpit, drivetrain, etc. rim brakes shouldn’t be a deal breaker and work perfectly fine even if disc is better.
I have a 2004 Allez I’ve been riding since 2015. It’s had a few different builds/iterations, but always been a snappy commuter and fun century spinner. Finally going to something more modern for disc brakes/more tire clearance but still puts a smile on my face.
