Bicycle wisdom from Phil 🙂
Thank you Katie & Phil 🙂🌸

I always enjoy it when you have videos with Phil! I’ll probably get a bike fit before buying my next bike, but in the meantime my 2009 Tarmac still feels perfect for me. If it ain’t broke…
Fit philosophy from fabulous Phil … fantastic! Ta very much! 🚴♂️😄
Bike Fits are great for a General Guidance but ultimately through "Personal Feel and experimentation" you have to find out for yourself based on your body type, there are so many variables to get it right especially the state of your mind because if that's not right neither will your position be…
Again great video with Phil, always very informative.
I took my Toyota truck to the dealer and the service writer told me I should have a wheel alignment. My truck drives straight when I let go of the wheel and the tires wear evenly. I don’t need a wheel alignment. In the same way if I’m comfortable riding and I’m getting good power, do I need a bike fit? I am a tinkerer though. Over the years I’ve made adjustments in position for both comfort and performance. I’ve been riding for over 50 years and have seen trends in all aspects of cycling, including position, come and go. I enjoy your videos with Phil and bike fit James on Cade Media. Their bike fit technique is based on actual data and knowledge of anatomy and physiology rather than tradition. I’m an RN and greatly appreciate their knowledge. I’ve used a lot of their bike fit tips to adjust my own position. Any person interested in cycling should get a fit before purchasing a bike and be armed with the knowledge of the size bike and components that fits them before even starting the shopping process. Nice video as usual Katie!👍
i mean you can't argue with anything that's been presented in this video – thanks for making it.
Something I learned today: I am the ultimate micro adjuster.
It's always so nice in cycling to hear that you DON'T need something. Which of course frees up money for something that you still don't need, but REALLY WANT. 🤣
Biggest issue I've ever had seems to be getting a decent saddle, more or less got there in the end but spent small fortune over the years on buy 4:41 4:45 n try in spite of measuring sit bone width etc etc. Anyways some low lifes stole my day to day bike today so I'm not very happy 🙁🙁 Might be an idea to do a video on locks etc etc 🙄
Diid you just bring Donald Rumsfeld into the bike fit conversation? Or maybe your accent is playing tricks? Haha
Who’s Jeraint!! 😮
Enjoyed that, I now know that I'm probably a macro adjuster, my 3 road bikes are small's but my 3 gravel bikes are medium and I can't tell the difference 🙂
I ride a lot and have no issues but as I get older I think I would get a bike fit at some point to prevent injury and to enable me to continue to ride as I get older 🙂
Query for you, I’ve been riding for over ten years and think I had my position pretty dialled, however I recently (October 2023) snapped my Achilles’ tendon playing football which resulted in having surgery to repair it. I’m now able to cycle on my indoor trainer but have lowered the saddle by over 20mm and changed to flat pedals while I continue my recovery. Should I consider a bike fit once I’m fully recovered, before I increase my mileage and would a bike fit take into account the injury? I’m an enthusiast cyclist so would average anywhere between 60 and 120 miles a week before the injury.
Gtrat stuff. Does macro adjustment bring more chance of longer term injury though? Even if it 'works' at the time.
Why does Katie need a bike fit every few months?
A bike fitter who tells us we need a bike fit. Good independent advice. Next we will have a coach telling us we all need a training plan 😊
Please stop pronouncing his name like that. It really made my eye itch. Bad enough listening to rob hatch lol. Sincerely. Geraint. That's Guh not Jer😊
🙋♂Help! Does anyone know what bike fit issue might lead to pain on the inside of the knee? I’m hoping it’s not a ligament or cartilage issue, but I did recently get new shoes and saddle.
Me gustan sus videos, FELICIDADES,,, siga adelante .saludos desde el sureste de MÉXICO LINDO Y QUERIDO,,,,
That was really interesting, thanks…now if only there was a way to determine if pain is caused by the bike…or just a result of aging and being lazy about stretching 😆
I had a bike fit in 2017 and was very pleased with it. 18 months ago; big crash. Broke 5 vertebrae, 4 ribs & pelvis. I'm back to cycling but I cannot get used to my old positioning. I'm still working in the gym on my back mobility. I wonder if I should get a new fit or be patient
Hi today 3. May about 10.00 a 1:30 m in train in Barcelon I have seen the woman very similar to you Maybe it was you?
Check the title of the video 🙃
I do NOT need bike fitters because of they have no idea how my custom elliptical ovals works and howto assemble them 🤣 https://dgtzuqphqg23d.cloudfront.net/fw7Fl5tS2BZ8QP6I0HvyJjmfTZ6BAmKRlORzkVGJKuw-2048×1542.jpg
I am the most experienced bike fit expert in my country, I give out my expertise for free today, hop on you bike, step on one pedal, any pedal, knee bend a little bit, done, that’s your perfect bike fit.
Great explaining! I like this way to think;). Again a good video 👍
❤
I've never had one – feel cheated!
If a line drawn up thru the head tube isn't within an inch of your ear….you will spend your entire life struggling to keep the bike on the road. Get your ear on the line and magically…the bike goes where you go.
I wish bike geometry was better. All the websites say I should be a 54 medium (I'm 5'9"). I went to a bike shop to try a Specialized Allez and the 52 small (5'4" to 5'7") fit me perfectly. Without checking I would never have thought a bike "meant" for someone 5" shorter than me would fit. For reference I also tried a Trek and a Giant and I found the small fitted me best as well.
I HAD A BIKE-FIT SEVERAL YEARS AGO WHICH GAVE ME THE WRONG MEASUREMENTS!
I HAD SOME PAINS IN HAND, AND NECK, SO GOT ANOTHER BIKE-FIT WHO IMMEDIATELY FOUND MY BARS WERE TOO WIDE, AND STEM TOO LONG.
MY FRAME WAS TOO BIG, WITH 4 COLNAGO DEALERS SAYING I WAS A 58S, BUT WAS ACTUALLY A 56S!
I DID HAVE BIKE BARS AND STEM CHANGED, BUT STEM WAS ONLY AN 80 SIZE, WHICH LOOKED WRONG!
I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A COLNAGO C64 IN THE RIGHT SIZE 56S, WITH IT BEING BUILT UP WITH CAMPAGNOLO SUPER RECORD EPS, ETC!
