Round six of the 1991 World Bike GP Championship at Hockenheim featured a truly breathtaking battle for supremacy in the 500cc class and Wayne Rainey (Marlboro Yamaha) and Kevin Schwantz (Lucky Strike Suzuki) took the race down to the wire as they pushed themselves and their mighty two-stroke machines to the absolute limit!

Other stars of the race included Eddie Lawson (Cagiva), Wayne Gardner (Rothmans Honda), Didier de Radigues (Lucky Strike Suzuki) and Mick Doohan (Rothmans Honda), who took the lead in the early stages, before being hunted down by the American duo of Schwantz and Rainey.

Italian Luca Cadalora gave an outstanding performance in the 250 cc Championship despite his own back injuries, continuing his ongoing battle with arch-rival Helmut Bradl.

  1. None of the current rider's today could do that on them bikes proper racing with proper motorbike 's not the hideous things today with cosworth wale tails and stabilisers

  2. i love how intense the fight between the riders in this era. the bikes are just pure mechanical beings and hard to control. you can actually see the bikes wobbled, powe rslide and power wheelie everywhere as the riders push them to the limits, especially at the last corner

  3. In Australia, we had the legend Barry Sheene narrating this epic duel, Barry's excitement and disbelief of what Kevin Scwantz had just done is well worth finding and listening too.

  4. Con respeto a los marquez, pecco, martin y compania aunque las mtgp actuales tengan mas cv aquellas 500 no tenian alectronica ni alerones y demas…… Eran cv salvajes y ahi eran las manos de los pilotos la que marcaban la diferencia!!
