Image is the rear side of my front derailleur. Obvious answer is, replace the cable. Unfortunately that’s not something I’ve done before or want to try right now, and all LBS are closed for the holidays.
So, I tightened the cable up a bit so it shifts up the the large chainring again but this is very obviously very temporary before it goes very *ping*.
Is there anything else I can do besides wait and go to LBS to have them fix it?
Separately and perhaps more importantly, what can cause this? It’s Shimano 105 and I know there are issues with the shifters there. I had the issue with the shifter chewing up the cable some months ago and got it fixed by another LBS but I didn’t trust their work entirely and I actually can’t remember if it was front or rear. So, may or may not be related to this.

The sharp angles the cables are routed really cause them to fray sooner than later. I changed mine, using the many YouTube videos out there as a guide.

change the shifter cable. it is very simple to do. just thread the new cable in once you have removed the old one. idiot-proof. or you can swap the groupset out for di2.
