We began this ride in Montalegre, located in the northernmost corner of Portugal, near the Spanish border. This region is quite elevated, with a plateau around 1000 meters above sea level. In December, the temperatures up there are quite chilly.
There’s something special about this region that makes it perfect for bike riding. The sun, the landscapes, the cobbles in the small villages, the people, and of course the dogs and cows, that are everywhere. If you want to ride from sunrise to sunset with barely any cars, this is a place to do it!
