You can cycle from Camberwell in south London to King’s Cross in north central London, entirely on quiet streets and protected cycle lanes.
The route is 7.8km long (6.1 miles) and makes use of Cycleway 6, Cycleway 17 and LTNs in Brunswick Park and Walworth.

Great route and Merry Christmas to you and your family
Love the Geoguessr challenges! Nearly got a perfect score on the first one – 24956!
2025 preview yes please!
Great route around Elephant & Castle! I could never quite figure out a low traffic route. I've been avoiding cycling due to the cold weather but hopefully this will give me some motivation.
Very good route, the Southwark road closures to cars have made a big difference to cyclists – although I usually drive a car and the first part of your route used to be my back route! Nowadays to get to Kings Cross I get a train from Denmark Hill to St Pancras, which operates as a direct route at certain times of day.
With a weather like that and people sitting and enjoying themselves, no wonder he got an ice cream craving.
Adorable endin to the video!
🤙🏽⚡️🤟🏽⚡️👌🏽
Ever considered those dutch type cargo ones where the kids are in front not behind?
Take up more space but I like them, not sure how well it works in London 😱
The 2025 "shape of things to come" video sounds great. It's so hard to know what's going on across London, but also makes a massive difference when you find a new link joins things up. In my case many of those are thanks to this channel. For example, I've been seeing some very exciting work north of Enfield on the New River which is not far from completion. As for taking the kids cycling, I progressed from seat on bike to a Circe Helios tandem and three epic trips cycling long distance, although I did have to resort to cake, ice cream and chocolate to get the Stoker to keep up their share of the work on several occasions!
I loved this video! Thanks to Isaac, a real MVP. I'd love to see a new Infrastructure 2025 video as well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Jon and everyone!
Yes I'd totally love a video covering all the upcoming cycle infrastructure! I've actually been searching for this sort of exciting information but haven't been able to find much!
The way from Peckham Rye identical from 3:21 onwards, just joining from the east after going up the Surrey Canal path from Peckham library, I do this often very nice route indeed.
🌞🍦😊
Great to feel the sun and warmth of summer in the middle of December! Thank you and hope you're recovering well.
Another up vote for the planned development video from me. Joyeuses fêtes, from Nice!
Great video this week. Posted at Christmas – we all need ice cream!! Looking forward to more videos like this – in the sun. Thanks for all the videos this year – well 6 months as that is when I found your channel.
07:38 Waitrose – ouch!
I seriously think 30fps looks way better than buffer-jerky video-buffer-jerky video. I don't care what you say. Gave up at the start of Camberwell Green.
I did ask for you to cover a commute for me but I managed to use kommot and the cycle way network to make a cycle friendly route for myself. My route resembled yours for a bit but you really explore some roads I’ve never seen before.
What really gets my goat is when the cycle infrastructure only exists in certain places so you are forced to go the long way round just to find it, to keep safe.
I still use the elephant and castle roundabout to get to Blackfriars bridge. I did have an incident on the road just after Burgess park when there was a temporary light, I was filtering on the offside and a lime bike rider cut in front of me and stopped in my path and I was thrown off the front of my handlebars. I am amazed he tried to blame me for it and didn’t even take accountability as he obviously didn’t look. I was visible and approaching and he suddenly blocks my path. Some people have no road sense.
I would say though at rush hour the cycle path from Southwark station to where the segregated cycle lane ends near the Smithfield market becomes the Wild West. Riders riding aggressively, overtaking dangerously, being inches away from other people’s back wheel and handle bars and doing anything to get in front. To be fair, that is the cycling culture in London. Unfortunately we just have poor infrastructure which makes cyclists more aggressive and more impatient which makes it more dangerous.
We need more segregated cycle lanes to alleviate the congestion at rush hour. We also need to fix the timing of the lights which I believe contributes to the bunching up of cyclists which makes that kind of behaviour more prevalent. The issue is that there are no cyclists on the path and then everyone goes at the same time at once packed together. The distribution of the cyclists is uneven. I am surprised to have seen a collision from the way people ride.
I'd love to see a 2025 cycle map update
Nice route!! 2025 preview sounds really marvellous too. Cheers🎉
glad to hear you're getting over your Covid. I haven't cycled this area of camberwell for a number of years so it's great to see the improvements Southwark have made. 7:33 Waitrose van had so much space it could just pull slightly into for a few seconds rather than driving straight at a cyclist with a small child on the back of the bike. Really annoys me when drivers decide, on your behalf, that there is enough room for you to squeeze down the side of them when they pass parked cars. Edit: I'm happy your son got his ice-cream at the end 😄
